My name is Scott Macdonald and together with my wife Sari own Lake Beratan Villa.
We currently live in Spain with our two small boys Nico and Kian, dividing our time
between Granada, my native Scotland and our other home in Bali.
I initially moved to Spain in 1996 with the intention of immersing myself in the language
and culture. After spending a year studying and managing to get my Spanish up to scratch
I was offered a job with a small multinational IT company and consequently moved to
Barcelona, where I lived for the next five years.
I then returned to Granada in 2003 and purchased an old Andalucian farmhouse only
minutes from the Alhambra palace which I renovated and turned into a beautiful holiday
home - www.CORTIJOLAMATA.com
We visited Bali for the first time in 2006 and like many others couldn’t help
but love the place. Despite increased tourism and the terrorist attacks of
a few years ago Bali continues to be a slice of paradise and the people, religion,
weather and culture all come together to make Bali a very special place.
Spirituality has been an important part of Bali's daily life for hundreds of
years and you don’t have to go too far from the main tourist centres to realize
that this is still the case today. The Balinese practice a form of Hinduism known
as Agama Hindu Dharma, an amalgam of Hindu and Buddhist elements combined
with indigenous religious customs and this translates into a daily life deeply
interwoven with art and ritual.
After “discovering” Bedugul we purchased the villa in January 2010 and after
carrying out the necessary reforms have also put it on the holiday home rental
market.A word of warning though,Bali has the habit of casting its spell on you
and the moment you feel the magic of this island, you may well be addicted to it
for the rest of your life! We think of our Lake Beratan Villa as 'our little piece
of heaven' and hope others will too. Enjoy!
Sari and Scott
